Health Update from the School Nurse:
Flu season is here and in full swing. As you may have heard, it is a bad flu year; health emergencies have been enacted in New York City and Boston. Today we received word of the first confirmed flu diagnosis for a CBMS student. Here are some guidelines for keeping students home and preventing the flu from spreading. School work can be made up. It is not too late to get a flu shot.
Temperature of more than 100.4º F. The fever can come on suddenly and is accompanied by the following symptoms:
This is probably the flu. Students should stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone (without the use of fever reducing medicine). These symptoms can be managed at home.
• The person has a fever over 100.4º F and belongs to a group at risk of developing complications from the flu.
Here are situations for when to call your primary care provider immediately or go to the emergency room (call 911 if needed).
