Deadline is this Friday! Community Holiday Programs for Families in Need - Several area organizations are interested in sponsoring children and/or families during the upcoming holiday season.  They have enlisted our help to make contact with interested families who have children, and who would like to receive assistance. The Waterbury Area Food Shelf and the Duxbury Elf Shelf (food shelf) can provide area residents with a “Holiday Food Box.”  The food box will contain items that may be used to prepare a holiday meal for families in need. Additionally, the Merchants Bank Waterbury branch will display a “Holiday Giving Tree” for area children and senior citizens.  Community members will either purchase or make a gift for an anonymous child (according to the age, gender, and size provided).  Waterbury and Duxbury residents with children enrolled in grades Pre K- 8 are eligible to participate.  The gifts for the children will be delivered to Thatcher Brook Primary School and will be available for pick up by a parent or guardian on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17th, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. If your family is interested in receiving from either of these programs, please return the completed form to school by Friday, November 08, 2012.  Forms will not be accepted after November 15, 2013. Click here for more information.

IMG_0374.JPGCBMS students recently planted seven sugar maple trees donated by the Duxbury Land Trust. They worked with state wetlands coordinator Alan Quackenbush to plant the trees properly to help support the bank of Crossett Brook and shade the outdoor classroom. The students researched tree species and chose the sugar maple since it is Vermont’s state tree. The students will also be taking care of the trees as part of a service learning project.

The Interact club at Harwood Union High School is holding their annual Gifts of Kindness donation drive. They are collecting donations such as: clothing, outerwear, toys, electronics, boots, and toiletries which will be donated to the Good Samaritan House in Barre. All donations are greatly appreciated, and they can be placed in the large box in the main lobby. If you have any questions, please contact RJ Hommel at Thank you in advance for any and all donations!
