Limited spots left!  Program for MS Boys in grades 5-8 - BC/BS of Vermont is proud to announce that Velocity is coming to CBMS once again this Spring! The goals of the program are:
  • To encourage a healthy, active lifestyle for Middle School boys.
  • To give boys an opportunity to try new fitness activities in a non-competitive, boys-only setting.
  • To help boys build confidence and communication skills, as they bond with mentors and other participants.
By creating six different activity modules, each with a corresponding lesson, we will give boys a chance to try out an activity without making a major commitment to it. Past activities include mountain biking, break-dancing, fencing, ropes course adventures, frisbee golf, orienteering, hiking and we’re always looking for new activities.  It is our goal to help each boy find at least one activity he really enjoys, and continue with it, remaining active in the future.
The program will run on Thursdays from 2:30-4:30, beginning on May 1st with a session on break dancing. The program costs $60 per child, and some scholarship money may be available upon request.  Checks should be made to "Velocity BCBSVT".  The permission form can be found by clicking here, and we are limited to 8 participants in this program- the first 8 filled out permission forms we receive in the CBMS office take those spots!  Contact Dan Gratton, the CBMS Velocity coordinator, to learn more - dgratton@wwsu.org or 244-6100 x122.

Michael Bove Wins Waterbury Ice Out Raffle – OM Fundraising Continues  Michael Bove of Waterbury Center (dad to a CBMS 7th grade OMer) is the winner of the first Waterbury Ice Out 50-50 raffle. Bove guessed the ice on the Waterbury Pool would melt April 14 at 6 p.m. That was the closest prediction to 7:10 p.m. when the wooden pallet tipped just enough for the 50-pound brick to slip off and sink to the bottom of the deep end.
Bove gets a $350 cash prize. The remaining $350 goes to benefit the Odyssey of the Mind program at CBMS and Thatcher Brook.  Three of the creative problem-solving teams of 4th through 7th graders are heading to Iowa State University for the OM World Finals competition in late May. Fundraising is helping pay half their trip costs.
The OM program thanks Waterbury Parks and Recreation for the use of the pool for this event, Pack and Send Plus for discounted printing services, and all of the local businesses who helped sell Ice Out tickets: Aubuchon Hardware, Bargain Boutique, Billings Mobil, Bridgeside Books, Crossroads Deli, Waterbury True Value Hardware, Family Physical Therapy.
The teams are making progress toward their fundraising goal but there’s still a way to go. For updates, check out their Facebook page: “Waterbury Duxbury Vt. Odyssey of the Mind.” They have an online donation site at http://www.gofundme.com/Waterbury-Duxbury-OM and a spring plant/bulb/seed sale with Flowerpower at Gardener’s Supply online.

BOTTLE DRIVE to benefit Odyssey of the Mind
When: Saturday, April 12th between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Where: Thatcher Brook Primary School or Waterbury Center Green

The Crossett Brook and Thatcher Brook Odyssey of the Mind kids continue their fundraising efforts this week as they work towards travelling next month to Iowa State University and the World OM Finals. Kids and their parent drivers will be out collecting returnable bottles and cans on Saturday. They also will have two drop-off locations if people want to contribute: Thatcher Brook Primary School and the Waterbury Center green. Drop off at either spot from 10 to noon.

OM is a creative problem-solving extra-curricular activity where teams of students work together to present innovative, clever, creative presentations that solve a detailed problem. Six local teams joined dozens of other student teams from around Vermont at the state OM tournament in March. Three local teams will go on to the international competition in May. Fundraising will cover half their costs. For more information, check out “Waterbury Duxbury VT Odyssey of the Mind” on Facebook.

Please help us get to the World Finals!

When Will the Waterbury Pool Melt?  When will the ice on the Waterbury Pool melt? Take a guess to support Waterbury-Duxbury Odyssey of the Mind students. A 50/50 “ice out” contest will help the 20 local students fundraising to travel to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals competition in Iowa in May.

In the tradition of Joe’s Pond in West Danville, a pallet holding a 50 lb. wrapped brick now sits on the frozen Waterbury Pool complete with a clock rigged to stop when the ice gives way and the brick slips into the icy water.Tickets for $2 per guess – 3 guesses for $5 -- are on sale now through Thursday, April 10, at Hannon Home Center/Aubuchon Hardware, Bridgeside Books, Crossroads Deli, Billings Mobil, True Value Hardware, Bargain Boutique, and at CBMS.

The guesser who comes closest to the correct time without going over will win half the raffle proceeds (after expenses are deducted). Updates on the contest as well as information about all of the fundraising efforts under way for the OM teams to make this trip can be found online on a new Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/WaterburyDuxburyOM?ref=hl. OMers are selling coffee and tea from Vermont Artisan; spring plants, bulbs, seeds with Gardner’s Supply; and they also have a simple online donation site at GoFundMe.com

OM is a creative problem-solving extra-curricular activity that focuses on teamwork, ingenuity and resourcefulness. This will be the first trip to World Finals for all of the students (grades 4-7) and parent volunteer coaches involved this year.

Upcoming Dates of Note:
  • April 11th- Ferry Beach buses arrive back to CBMS- 4:45PM
  • April 11- HUMS Grades 7/8 Dance at The Ice Center- 7:30-9:30PM
