Change #3- Proficiency-based Learning (PBL) is coming to our math classes!  Learning and assessing based on proficiencies is a hot topic in the WWSU schools and in lots of forward-thinking schools in Vermont and nationwide.  CBMS math teachers are passionate about this topic, and they as a group are forging ahead this year with bringing PBL into the learning and assessing in mathematics.  The ultimate goal of PBL is that learners (and parents!) will better know and be able to pinpoint individual learning strengths and challenges.  When teachers have this information, the personalization towards learning can be ramped up, with a focus on improving each individual's areas of challenge and making the areas of strength stronger.  Look forward to hearing more about PBL from your child's math teacher at Back 2 School Night next Thursday, and in the meantime more information on proficiency-based learning in general can be found here.

Changing The World, one project at a time!
  • Abby Colbert and Alex Pendo are organizing a Walk for Animals.  The animal walk is to raise money for the North Country Animal League. The walk will be held on Saturday, Sept 26, at 1:30PM, and will begin and end at Thatcher Brook Primary School. Please pick up a pledge form for donations which will be in the front office.
  • Cadance Hammond is going to do a coin drive for her hometown Randolph Fire Department because it was on fire and they need new equipment.  If you could bring in just coins that would be great. The jars for the coins will be in the front office soon.  Thank you!

CBMS Change #3- Music Block.  This year both band and chorus for grades 5-8 are happening in the middle of the day (versus the last block as it has been in the recent past).  We have been able to make this happen as a result of 3 lunch/recess blocks of 30-minutes each, one of which is the one for students involved in the music program.  This change has allowed for more time in both 5/6 and 7/8 band and chorus, and more flexibility within that block for Dan Liptak and Eileen Baker to flex groups as concerts approach.  The number of students in our music program is large, and thanks in advance for supporting music at CBMS!
