Changes in the CBMS After-School Program. Club Cougar is transitioning to The Y Pod in 16/17! The YMCA will be running our after-school program in the coming school year, and details can be found at this link. Register soon, as space is limited!

Public Forum:  Act 46 Consolidation
Washington West Supervisory Union - A series of public information forums have been set up to help voters learn more about Act 46 Consolidation, and how our local communities may be affected by it.  Please join the Washington West Executive Committee, Act 46 Study Committee, and Administration in the last of 4 public forums regarding the Act 46 Consolidation.

When:  Monday, May 23, 2016
Time:  6:30 - 9:30 p.m.
Where:  The Big Picture Theater, Waitsfield

There will be a panel discussion and question and answer period.  Everyone is encouraged and welcome to attend.

Help Harwood Win a $100,000 Grant  One of the HUHS co-principals, Amy Rex, has been selected as Vermont’s representative for the Lawrence O’Toole Award through the Nellie Mae Education Foundation.  Vermont will compete with representatives from the other New England states for the grand prize of a $100,000 grant for the school.  Please see more info below, but PLEASE, pass this along to as many folks as possible.  Voting starts Monday May 23, at  More details...

At Harwood Union High School in Vermont, students are not only taking an active role in designing their own education, but they are leading efforts to change systems and make sure that student voices are heard and acted upon. As the school's Co-principal, Amy Rex has served as a champion of student voice and student-centered learning at Harwood, leading efforts to develop personalized learning opportunities for every student.

Amy has been nominated for the Nellie Mae Education Foundation’s 5th Annual Lawrence W. O’Toole Award. This honor is bestowed upon a leader who has exhibited great leadership through innovation in moving student-centered approaches to learning forward in New England. One educational leader from each of the New England states has been nominated. 

Each nominee will have an online profile on the Students at the Center Hub, where visitors will be able to vote between May 23rdat 12:00 PM EST – June 3rd, 12:00 PM EST, 2016. This year, the Nellie Mae Foundation has expanded the voting options. Individuals can cast their vote by email or text message - 1 vote per email address or text number. Voting instructions will be placed on the Students at the Center Hub (

The winner (nominee with the most votes by the end of the contest) will be presented with the $100,000 grant for their respective school at a ceremony to follow.

The Nellie Mae Education Foundation is New England’s largest public charity focused solely on education and has worked for over 20 years to help our region prosper by preparing all of its learners for success. Currently, their areas of focus are: Build Public Understanding and Demand; Build Educator Ownership, Leadership and Capacity; Develop Effective Systems Designs; and Advance Quality and Rigor of Student-Centered Practices.

Casting call for children ages 8-13 for Season 3 of Kids Baking Championship. We’re seeking talented kids with the ability to bake a variety of different dishes, from scratch. Contestants will be selected to appear on the show to participate in a series of baking challenges. Ultimately, one winner will be awarded a cash prize!  We are trying to spread the word to as many as possible about this awesome opportunity for talented kid bakers!
