June 10

Early release day for grades 5-7 today, with dismissal beginning at 12:10.  We will be taking bag lunches (for those who will buy lunch) and walking down to the Waterbury Pool for some team building including swimming, kickball, basketball, and capture the flag.  We will be walking back to CBMS, arriving back in time for dismissal.  Parents- please check your child for sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen, and a water bottle before he/she leaves your house next Friday!

Placement letter delivery - Please accept my sincere apologies for the late notice on placement letters for many of you.  This caused unnecessary anxiety, and that is never good!  Lesson learned- next year placement decisions will be communicated electronically.

Do you like to run, walk, or simply chip in for a good cause? Come and celebrate the River of Light Parade through a local run to raise money for the parade.  On June 12th at CBMS, there is a 3-mile run and a 1-mile fun run. The registration is from 8:00 to 8:45AM, and the race starts at 9AM. The suggested donation will be $5 for kids and $10 for adults and -10 for families of 4 or more.  There will be a raffle and all the money goes to the River of Light Parade. The raffle costs will be included with the registration. There will be refreshments after the race and we will sell River of Light t-shirts at the race. This race is organized by Maisie Franke and Charlie Flint for a Brainado school project at CBMS. Thanks for your support!

To 8th Grade parents of students headed to HUHS next year:

Dear Harwood Parents and Students,

This letter serves as communication regarding important information related to our 1:1 technology program. For
the 2016-17 school year, students in grades 9-12 will be
issued Chromebooks.  Students in grades 9-12 also have the option to use their own device (BYOD) rather than receive a school  Chromebook. All BYOD must be registered with the Tech Dept. to ensure a safe and secure online environment or both the school and the student’s device. Permission forms and paperwork related to technology use at school and our 1:1 program will be sent with our student mailing in early August. These will need to be completed and returned prior to any student being issued a school device or having a BYOD registered. Students in grades 9-12 Fall 2016: For planning purposes we ask that you visit the Harwood website
(www.harwood.org) and click on the link 2016 1:1 Device Request to state your preference of using a school
issued Chromebook or a BYOD. We ask that this form be completed by June 17, 2016.

Sincerely,

Lisa AtwoodCo-Principal

A note from Amy Rex, HUHS Co-Principal:

Dear CBMS Folks:
I would like to extend my sincere appreciation for the support given to my recent nomination of the Lawrence O’Toole Award. This nomination was truly an honor; however, an honor of this magnitude is not about one person.  It is a reflection of an organization and community comprised of caring and dedicated faculty, students, families and community partners.
Although I did not 'win' the vote, the Nellie Mae Foundation is awarding Harwood Union with a $10,000.00 grant as a means to recognize our current efforts and support our continued focus and future endeavors for a Student Centered Learning environment.
Happy Summer to One and All!
With Gratitude,

Amy Rex, HUHS Co-Principal
